On Friday, March 21, 2025, the first official meeting to start studying the optimisation of seawater desalination processes in collaboration with Remote Waters was held. The meeting was led by the principal investigator of the project, Dr Gonzalo Águila and had the participation of Pablo Cassorla, founder and CEO of Remote Waters, a Chilean company recognised for implementing desalination and purification systems in isolated communities or with difficulties in accessing drinking water.
The meeting formally welcomed two new members: Tomás Rojas Sepúlveda, a student of Chemical Engineering at the Federico Santa María Technical University, who will analyse the influence of seawater quality on the efficiency of desalination processes. On the other hand, Guillermo Lillo Orellana, an MSc in Chemical Engineering student at the University of Chile, will work on proposing an optimised model to minimise the energy consumption of desalination systems intended for electrolysers.
